Kristi Bodine (Class of 2014)

Kristi Bodine

Kristi Bodine built her career from the strong foundation she gained at the University of South Alabama, where early field experiences with the Center for Archaeological Studies set her on a career path in historical archaeology and preservation. Soon after graduating, she worked at George Washington’s boyhood home, Ferry Farm, before moving into field technician roles with the College of William and Mary on Revolutionary War-era sites in the historic triangle.

Her interest in historic architecture deepened during an internship at Old Salem in North Carolina and through extensive Phase II and III work across Virginia and North Carolina. That passion led her to pursue a master’s degree in Historic Preservation at the University of Vermont, where she trained in preservation law, architectural history, conservation, and National Register nominations. Her fellowship with the National Trust for Historic Preservation allowed her to live and work at Lyndhurst Mansion, contributing to the stabilization of the 1911 natatorium and even directing an unexpected archaeological discovery on-site.

Kristi has since worked in nearly every region of the country, gaining a reputation for her expertise in historic materials, architectural history, and archaeological method. She is now a Historic Preservation Specialist in the Cultural Resources division of Colliers Engineering & Design in Houston, Texas, where she conducts archaeological and architectural surveys, writes technical reports and treatment plans, and leads cemetery preservation projects. Her recent work includes archaeological monitoring and a historic treatment plan at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as conditions assessments and remote sensing at Great Camp Sagamore in the Adirondacks.

Bringing together archaeology and architectural history, Kristi is part of a rare cohort trained deeply in both disciplines. She credits South’s hands-on field school and mentorship for launching her career and remains passionate about encouraging future students to seek early practical experience in museums, labs, and cultural institutions.
